There’s no getting around it, Seoul is electric. South Korea’s vibrant sprawling capital has it all - a centre for commerce, culture and the arts, food, shopping and many of South Korea's most important institutions. It's the centre of the KPop scene, the South Korean musical phenomenon currently mesmerising the west, and the best place to experience daily South Korean life. A city of contrasts, Seoul is at once on the cutting edge of modernity and technology while still retaining its historical soul... Seoul's ‘soul’ as it were. Korea's capital for over 600 years since the days of the Joseon Dynasty (1392 - 1910), the city retains much of its history and cultural heritage, including Joseon-era palaces and temples. It's common to see a contemporary architectural masterpiece sitting adjacent to the gates of a Joseon-era temple - it speaks to permanence and the respect, dignity and pride Seoul's inhabitants have in their city.
Travelling to Seoul for business or leisure? You’ll find plenty to see and do in Seoul. Close to Fraser Hospitality’s serviced apartment accommodation in the Namdaemun district, you’re not only close to the commercial centre of the city but also some of Seoul’s more fascinating pastimes. Stop for a barista crafted coffee in one of Seoul’s offbeat themed cafes (coffee with a racoon? sure!), spend a few hours unwinding in one of Seoul’s traditional jjimjilbang spas, or ride the Hallyu - the Korean Wave of pop culture in drama and music that’s swept the world by storm - with a Hallyu experience tour.

During your stay in your Seoul hotel, don't miss out on the opportunity to visit some of the city's top historical sites. Located within a minute's walking distance of Fraser Place Namdaemun, the Sungnyemun Gate is one of the four great gates of Seoul's old city walls and is classified South Korea's No. 1 National Treasure. Further afield and to the north of your apartment in Seoul, the Gyeongbok Palace is the largest and most beautiful of Seoul's five Joseon-era royal residences. It is well worth a visit to marvel at the palace's ancient grandeur. Nearby the Gyeongbok Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village offers visitors a unique glimpse into the city's past. Hundreds of beautifully painted and cared-for traditional houses called ‘hanok’, line the narrow streets. Today, many of the houses have been converted into cultural exhibitions, restaurants and tea houses, making Bukchon Hanok Village a must-see for any traveller to Seoul.
Seoul is renowned for being at the cutting edge of tech and the information age, and there are few places better suited to release your inner tech-head than the Yongsan Electronics Market, located to the south of your serviced apartment in central Seoul. Seoul is the home of global consumer electronics giant, Samsung, and the wholesale market features a wealth of different products to choose from, as well as brands and devices from around the globe.
To get to the market from your hotel in central Seoul, take the metro from the National Police Agency directly to the Yongsan Electronics Market - a journey of around 20 minutes door-to-door.
There's more to Korean cuisine than bibimbap and Kimchi, and Seoul offers South Korea's best food scene hands-down. The trick is knowing how to choose from the thousands of food and dining options on offer. Our advice? Start local. A leisurely 2-minute walk will bring you to Namdaemun Market, the largest traditional market in Korea. The markets serve multiple needs; part food street, park wholesale market and everything affordable. A must-try local dish is Tteokbokki - a spicy street food mainstay. Pan rice cakes swim in gochujang - chilli paste - served with slices of fish cake. It's perfect for Seoul's chilly autumn and winter nights.
For upmarket dining, book a table at Mingles, a two Michelin-star fine dining establishment located in the vibrant Cheongdam-dong district. Chef Mingoo Kang creates a seasonal menu blending western - predominantly French and Spanish - techniques with Korean ingredients and flavours. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined and the food a delight.
In a country with a known penchant for engineering marvels, Seoullo 7017 stands out. Once an elevated overpass built to address Seoul's increasing traffic congestion, the site was reimagined by the city's government and the local community into a vibrant urban greenway. Instead of cars, locals and visitors alike wander along the raised pedestrian walkway covered in carefully curated gardens. The site stands as a symbol of Seoul's commitment to sustainable urban development and has revitalised the area surrounding it.
Getting to Seoullo 7017 from your apartment in the centre of Seoul couldn't be easier. Take the metro from the National Police Agency and alight at Eunpyeong New Town, Public Garage. From there, a three-minute walk will bring you to Seoullo 7017.
Seoul is the epicentre of Hallyu - the Korean Wave of popular culture sweeping the world. Epitomised in Korea’s episodic TV and music exports, Hallyu encompasses absolutely everything from K-pop to K-drama, fashion, hairstyles, accessories, food and personal care. It’s not just about having the right look or following a favourite K-pop group like global heart throbs BTS and Twice, the phenomenon has its own brands and even its own dance styles. The best way to experience Hallyu is with a Hallyu experience tour. There’s many to choose from and for the uninitiated the choice can be a tad confusing. Two of our favourites include the K Musical Tour that takes visitors down Daehak-ro, a strip stacked with theatres and studios and known as Seoul’s centre for the performing arts, and the K-Star road tour through the Gangnam district, a self guided walking tour that delivers a concentrated dose of Gangnam style.
Seoul is a large, sprawling metropolis and so it's no surprise the city's main international airport, Incheon International Airport, is located approximately 50 kilometres outside of the city proper. The easiest and quickest way to arrive at your hotel in Seoul is to take a taxi - a trip time of about 50-minutes. A slightly longer yet cheaper option is to take the train from the airport to Seoul Station, then change to the metro to make the journey to the nearest station to your serviced apartment accommodation.
