Seoul's historical side

During your stay in your Seoul hotel, don't miss out on the opportunity to visit some of the city's top historical sites. Located within a minute's walking distance of Fraser Place Namdaemun, the Sungnyemun Gate is one of the four great gates of Seoul's old city walls and is classified South Korea's No. 1 National Treasure. Further afield and to the north of your apartment in Seoul, the Gyeongbok Palace is the largest and most beautiful of Seoul's five Joseon-era royal residences. It is well worth a visit to marvel at the palace's ancient grandeur. Nearby the Gyeongbok Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village offers visitors a unique glimpse into the city's past. Hundreds of beautifully painted and cared-for traditional houses called ‘hanok’, line the narrow streets. Today, many of the houses have been converted into cultural exhibitions, restaurants and tea houses, making Bukchon Hanok Village a must-see for any traveller to Seoul.

Seoul for food lovers

There's more to Korean cuisine than bibimbap and Kimchi, and Seoul offers South Korea's best food scene hands-down. The trick is knowing how to choose from the thousands of food and dining options on offer. Our advice? Start local. A leisurely 2-minute walk will bring you to Namdaemun Market, the largest traditional market in Korea. The markets serve multiple needs; part food street, park wholesale market and everything affordable. A must-try local dish is Tteokbokki - a spicy street food mainstay. Pan rice cakes swim in gochujang - chilli paste - served with slices of fish cake. It's perfect for Seoul's chilly autumn and winter nights.

For upmarket dining, book a table at Mingles, a two Michelin-star fine dining establishment located in the vibrant Cheongdam-dong district. Chef Mingoo Kang creates a seasonal menu blending western - predominantly French and Spanish - techniques with Korean ingredients and flavours. The atmosphere is relaxed yet refined and the food a delight.

K… everything

Seoul is the epicentre of Hallyu - the Korean Wave of popular culture sweeping the world. Epitomised in Korea’s episodic TV and music exports, Hallyu encompasses absolutely everything from K-pop to K-drama, fashion, hairstyles, accessories, food and personal care. It’s not just about having the right look or following a favourite K-pop group like global heart throbs BTS and Twice, the phenomenon has its own brands and even its own dance styles. The best way to experience Hallyu is with a Hallyu experience tour. There’s many to choose from and for the uninitiated the choice can be a tad confusing. Two of our favourites include the K Musical Tour that takes visitors down Daehak-ro, a strip stacked with theatres and studios and known as Seoul’s centre for the performing arts, and the K-Star road tour through the Gangnam district, a self guided walking tour that delivers a concentrated dose of Gangnam style.
