Nature’s Glory

Tam Dao National Park is a must-visit for nature lovers with its cool weather and magnificent mountain scenery. You’ll find plenty of flora and fauna here including rare species of birds and monkeys. Go hiking or trekking, and make your way to the Silver Waterfall, where you’ll be mesmerised by the gushing water cascading down the steep rocky mountain to the river below.

For more man-made scenery, head to nearby Tam Dao Town, where you’ll find the 100-year-old Stone Church which was built by the French and is a fine example of Gothic architecture. There’s also the Sky Gate, named for its high-rise view of the clouds and surrounding mountains.

Dai Lai Lake also offers breath-taking views of surrounding mountains and forests, as well as pure fresh air - a welcome respite after the pollution of Hanoi. Water sports lovers can enjoy swimming, fishing, kayaking and other activities, or simply enjoy the view from one of the many cafes and restaurants in the area.

Cultural Heritage

For some quiet contemplation, visit some of Vinh Phuc’s historic temples and pagodas which showcase stunning ancient architecture. The most famous temple in Vinh Phuc is the Truc Lam Tay Thien Zen Monastery, which sits atop Tay Thien Mountain and is one of the most beautiful and sacred places of worship in the country. In the early morning, a cloud of mist envelopes the temple, lending a mystical feel to the tranquil serenity of the surroundings.

Meanwhile, Ha Tien Pagoda is a striking structure that’s not just architecturally impressive, it also houses many priceless ancient treasures including a stone incense tree and jade well.

Binh Son Tower is a famous landmark in Vinh Phuc, an 11-storey high brick structure that dates back to the Tran Dynasty. The elegant pagoda features detailed carvings on its exterior walls illustrating delicate chrysanthemums and lotus flowers, and striking dragon phoenixes.

Get a close up look of traditional craftsmanship at Huong Canh Pottery Village, a 300-year-old village where potters still make ceramic vases and other objects using ancient techniques. Made of thick green clay, you’ll find a wide range of designs from simple to artistic, which you can buy to bring home.

Local Flavours

There’s more to just Vietnamese noodles or pho to enjoy in the city. Banh cuon are delicate crepes made of rice flour that are filled with minced pork and mushrooms, to be dipped in a savoury sauce.

Bun cha is another local speciality that features grilled pork patties served with rice noodles, fresh herbs and a sweet-sour dipping sauce. And of course, don’t forget the famous Banh mi or French baguettes filled with pork and pickled vegetables.
