Glasgow Central Station opened on 1 August 1879. The station was originally built by Sir William Arroll, consisting of eight platforms and a four-track railway bridge across Argyle Street – however, it has transformed over the years to what it is today with 18 platforms and an upper and lower level network of tracks.
