The Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2019

Widely recognised as one of Australia's most important art events, the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes is an annual exhibition that features an extensive collection of Australia's top artistic talent and their painterly creations. The three awards are each important in their own right, but it's the Archibald Prize that's considered the most prestigious of the bunch.

First awarded in 1921, the Archibald has emerged as Australia's favourite art award, with its focus on truly transcendent portrait painting resulting in some outstanding works. With many of the paintings depicting a wide array of Australia's most recognisable politicians, celebrities, sporting heroes and fellow artists, the Archibald is a great chance to see these famous faces at their most experimental. There are a lot of artworks to soak up throughout the exhibition, but you can't miss the 2019 award's winning portrait by Tony Costa, which he painted using renowned artist Lindy Lee as his subject.

Meanwhile, there is plenty more artwork to discover this Father's Day, with the Wynne Prize highlighting the best of Australian landscape painting and figure sculpture. Plus, there's also the Sulman Prize, which is awarded for the best subject painting, genre painting or mural project that uses oil, acrylic, watercolour or mixed media.
